Girls U14’s v Cambridge City 17/02/2019

After a tentative start having faced a strong Cambridge side previously, an unfortunate goal was scored by the opposition during the very first minutes of the game. Another goal shortly followed but the U14’s stayed strong and stuck to tactics discussed before the game. Saints soon came back with a brilliant goal set up by a scoop pass from Millie Ritchie from inside her own half, beating the Cambridge defence. It was picked up by Abbie Burnett leaving her one on one with the keeper but Abbie flicked it straight into the net leaving the half time score at 2-1 to Cambridge. After a water break and some tactical talking, Saints were raring to go but were caught off guard by another quick goal from the Cambridge attack. Eager to get a goal, Saints pushed hard and had quite a few chances that eventually led to another goal from Abbie, this time a deflection at the far post. Feeling the pressure, Cambridge worked hard and scored again from a break isolating defenders and beating the goalie. Another attack led to Saints clearing the ball all the way down to near their 23. It was picked up by Camilla Young and after some great team play Abbie slipped it in from the post again giving her a hat trick. Applying lots of pressure to the Cambridge defence resulted in a few more chances; however none were converted and the final whistle blew with the score being 4-3 to Cambridge. It was a great team performance and we all held our own. A special mention to Abbie for her hat trick. Well played everyone!!
