On Me ‘Ead Son!

The Men's 1s entertained West Bridgford at Moulton on Saturday.

In a tense opening, Saints had three well worked open play chances that forced reaction saves from the visiting Keeper. Dominating possession with confident passing, the breakthrough came on the 25th minute with a fully deserved short corner from Rhys Noble.
As the half drifted to a close, West Bridgford took advantage of a penalty corner to bring the scores level.

The second half was a combative affair with both sides taking card cautions. Close efforts from WB came and went, having been thwarted by the Saints resolute back line. The game finished level with both teams feeling happy with the shared point.

Player of the Match was Lee O'Donnell following a sterling effort, fitting in to the defence after Dan Bentley took a ball to the head and going to hospital. He has since had medical attention and is safely recovering at home.

The Men's 1s travel to Nottingham Uni next week.

Over on the sand pitch, the 6s v 7s local derby finished 8-2 to The World Famous Fighting 6s, but not after a scare in the first half, with The 7s leading 2-1 at one point.

The Ladies 2s travelled to high-flying Uni Warwick 1s. Saints lost 3-2, but played very well and probably should have/could have had something from the game. Nevertheless, it was a very positive performance bearing in mind they had not trained. (Was that because of the weather? – ed.)

The Men’s 3s continued their fine form with a 3-0 win over Melton 2s. The first half was a cagey affair, but Saints pulled off a dominant display in the second half to take the points.

Elsewhere, Mens 2s lost 2-1 away to Notts Players, Men’s 4s drew 1-1 v Khalsa Leamington, and Ladies 3’s lost 3-1 vs Leicester City.

Clearly it was good to get back on the pitch after The Great Frost of January 2022 and it’s onwards and upwards for the rest of the month.
