Match Reports from 25th February
Men’s 1st XI 3-0 Burton
Goals: Joe Colantonio, Christian Howard, Dave Saunders
Saints continued their impressive form with a comfortable 3-0 win at Moulton College. It was all one-way traffic and it came as no surprise when skipper Joe Colantonio opened the scoring.
Further goals from winger Christian Howard and forward Dave Saunders ensured the points were Saints. They were unlucky not to score more goals but will happily take the 3 points that should now see them finish the season comfortably in mid-table.
Men’s 2nd XI 0-2 Harborne 2nd XI
Saints all but confirmed their relegation from the Midlands Premier Division with a 2-0 defeat away at relegation rivals Harborne.
The home side started off the better of the 2, enjoying the possession as Northampton struggled for any sort of fluency. This led to them going 1 goal down as a Harborne forward tipped in at the far post. As the half wore on Saints got into their stride and began to push Harborne back, however shortly before half-time Harborne made it 2.
The second half belonged to Saints as they camped themselves in Harborne’s half. This led to forward James Knibb coming close on a couple of occasions. The best chance of the half fell to Matt Gausden who narrowly missed the goal after Greg Summers had beaten the keeper. A reminder to all his team-mates that he should stick to defending!!
Special mention to Greg Summers who put in a very promising performance on his 2ndteam debut.
Squad: Ed Holt, Matt Gausden, Guy Roberts, Jon Noble, Pete Riches, Adam Croutear, Scott Mahoney, Stephan Williams, James Knibb, Dan Whitakker, Greg Summers, Lee O’Donnell, Athiq Thamby
MOTM: Can’t remember!
DOTD: Matt Gausden for missing a sitter!! Special mention also goes to Stephan Williams for doing his care in the community on Friday night!!!
Ladies 1st XI 0-8 Loughborough 1st XI
Loughborough had a strong squad enabling them to put saints under a lot of pressure from the off. Unfortunately, saints conceded a early goal in just under 10 mins. Loughborough continued to work hard, putting two more goals away before half time.
Saints came out hard in the second half, although with 3 players becoming injuries and unable to finish the game, loughborough were able to put another goal away. With a narrow miss from chloe cozens, spirits began to lift. However not for long after loughborough won a short corner and scored again, though not before continuous saves by Rebecca howwitt. As the game continued loughborough entered the circle many times but saints defence stayed strong, including when the visitors won a short corner which was drag flicked and then knocked away on the line by sally trappitt-jones.
After a long game saints finished with an 8-0 lose.
Ladies 4th XI 1-0 Kettering
Scorers: Becca Herring
A valiant effort from the 4’s this week, particularly our defence who battled tirelessly throughout this game. Claire Baker continuously fought off the attack from Kettering making some excellent saves. The first half saw the Saints in attacking mode which resulted in a fantastic goal from Becca Herring. However Kettering dominated play in the second half, continuously attacking, and a loss of formation for the Saints meant that any attacks on Kettering were often futlie. Something to work on to ensure we attack throughout the game but a great effort from everyone none the less.
Thank you!
Men’s 3rd XI 3-2 Boots 3rd XI
Scorers: Scott-Collins 2, Mitchell
Saints started brightly but quickly realized that this would be no walk in the park, with Boots looking lively. After half chances at either end Scott Collins and Down went close but were unable to direct the shots on target. As the half drew on Scott Collins produced some magic reversing the ball into the roof of the net.
The second half brought a wake up call for saints as Boots equalised after Thompson made an initial save but was left stranded as Boots scored into the empty goal. Minutes later they were in front. Saints were shocked and it didn’t take long for Scott-collins to weave his magic again as he cut into the D, producing a thunderbolt past the diving keeper. Saints claimed all 3 points after an initial shot was saved by the boots keeper allowing Mitchell to claim the glory. Saints didn’t play at all well in the match but were more than grateful for the points, leaving Saints comfortably above the relegation zone.
