Hockey Festival Success for South Northants School Sports Partnership

Northampton Hockey Club helped run a hockey festival for the South Northants School Sports Partnership at Moulton School on Monday this week. Three Primary Schools; Kislingbury, Walgrave and Boughton attended with 50 children. Mike Joyce of Futures Sports led the activities and was helped by 6 young leaders including 3 from the hockey club and three from Moulton Secondary school. As temperatures soared the pupils all worked extremely hard and learnt some new skills, on what was a great afternoon. The teams for the County-wide school games will be picked from these schools and we hope that this project will have prepared them to perform well at the School Games.

Helen Buckley the School Games Organiser for South Northants said “it was a real success; the pupils managed to participate in a range of activities and showed real promise”

Northampton Hockey Club provided additional equipment and hopes to attract some of the children to take up the sport. Andy Dale of Northampton Hockey Club said “The young leaders were a major factor in the success of the event and will have learnt much about teaching and coaching primary school children today. This afternoon was a really good example of how clubs, schools and private sports providers can work together to help children learn and enjoy physical education. Hopefully some of the participants will become interested in the sporting activities.”

Further coaching for the schools will be on offer from Pacesetter Sports who are running a 4 week “Quicksticks” coaching programme in the lead up to the School Games to prepare each school. Pacesetter will be running this as part the sports coaching sessions they offer to schools both within curriculum and ex-curricular time.
