Men’s Masters get off to a flyer in Bedford Vets League Debut

Men’s Masters 5-0 Shefford & Sandy

The Men’s Masters team lined up for their debut match in the midweek Bedford Vets League.

The Saints lined up with Adam Powell in goal, Phil Knight, Mike Derbyshire, Jason Hillier and Jon Noble at the back. John Harte, Guy Roberts, Ian Mcilwaine and Richard Darby in the middle and Max Darby and Colyn Biddle up front. Jez Deeks  and John Stone both came on as Subs. Saints started well with good possession against an experienced Shefford and Sandy side, this paid off when Guy Roberts ghosted in to the circle lifting the ball over the defenders stick and drilling the ball in to the bottom left corner of the goal.

Jez Deeks was felled by a lifted ball from Mike Derbyshire which caught him on the knee, he was able to return to the field after treatment. Max Darby scored just before the break lifting the ball over the diving keeper.

Jon Noble scored twice from penalty corners and eventually Colyn Biddle scored after a number of chances including a spectacular tomahawk shot over the bar, the goal coming from a characteristically sorry uncharacteristically unselfish pass from Jezz Deeks!  Over all a very good team performance which bodes well for the rest of the season.
