Ladies 1st XI 4 – 3 Oundle School

Goals: Chloe Cozens, Lachan, Sally Cory, Sarah Stanley-Smith

In their first game of the pre-season campaign, the Ladies 1s were given a brisk run around by Oundle School. The game was to be 3 of 25 minutes sessions to enable all players to have a good outing and play their part. The game proved to be an early test for the fitness levels of Saints with Oundle being full of running right from the start. Saints managed to gain control and began to pass the ball around and find the space to exploit the Oundle team. At the end of the first session Saints were 1-0 up thanks to a close range goal from Chloe Cozens as sheflicked it past the keeper.

During the second session Saints began to build on their confident play from the 1st session and made more of the attacking with quick counter attacking to increase the score-line to 4-0 with goals from Lachan who lifted the ball over the advancing keeper from a rebound, Cory who drove the ball in from an acute angle after s[potting the keeper off her line and Sarah Stanley-Smith with a deflection on the far post after being picked out by Cory.

During the final session however the fitness levels began to be more telling as Saints failed to cover back as they had been in the first two sessions, and Oundle were able to take advantage by keeping the pressure on the Saints defensive line and managed to score 3 goals in the last 15 minutes.

For the first match of the season a good confidence boost and a pleasing performance with the result.
