Tomorrow’s (18/1/14) Match Previews
This Saturday sees our Men’s 1s, who currently sit in fourth, host league leaders Bourneville at Moulton College (water base), 12pm push back. A win for the 1s would close to the gap at the top of the table to just 4 points. After a comprehensive 8-3 win against Milton Keynes in mid-week, Ben Scott’s side will be heading into the game full of confidence, and with a fully fit squad to pick from.
The Men’s 2s travel to Belper looking to avenge a 4-3 defeat at the start of season. Both teams are seperated by 1 point, and a win for Saints would see them furth move further away from the relegation zone. The 2s welcome back sicknote George Roberts, who returns to league action after missing most of the season with injury.
It’s first vs second spot for the Men’s 3s tomorrow, as they host top of the table Boots. Boots are 3 points better off than Saints, but with the 3s currently on a 10 game winning streak, they will fancy their chances to walk away with 3 crucial points! Watch out for defender Jason Hillier, who is in fine goal-scoring form (so much so that he’s convinced he’s a natural centre forward…). Push back is at 12.30pm at Moulton Sports Complex.
The Men’s 4s travel to face Cannock 4s. On paper it seems like a tough game, but Cannock are only 3 points better off than Saints, so there could well be an upset on the cards here!
The Men’s 5s host Leek at 2pm, at Moulton Sports Complex. With captain Andy Dale missing, it’s left to Deputy Down (Nigel) to lead the side. They face a tough ask facing a Leek side currently sitting in second. However a win for Saints could potentially see them move clear of relegation, if other results go their way.
The Men’s 6s have possibly the biggest game of all the sides tomorrow as they travel to play Rugby & East Warwick 7s in this bottom of the table clash. A win for Northampton would see them move to within touching distance of third from bottom Melton, and give them real hope of staying up this season. It’s a tough ask for this young but fastly improving Saint side. But if they carry on their recent form, then they could just do it!
Finally, the Men’s 7s are at home to Nottingham Players 4s. With a 3.30pm push back at Moulton Sports Complex. With Players currently third in the table and the 7s mid-table, it’s likely to be a tough match for the 7s, and they will need to rely on the experience of Nigel Riches and Pete Adey to see them through. Forward Jez Deeks also makes a league appearance, after some recent appearances for the Men’s Vets, and his eye for goal could be crucial.
Further league action sees the Mixed side host Old Moults at Moulton Sports Complex, 5pm push back. Previous games between these 2 sides have tended to result in goalfests! So this match should be well worth watching!
The Ladies section of the club has a quiet weekend of outdoor hockey, as they parcicipate in an inter-club indoor tournament on Sunday. However there is one outdoor match tomorrow as the Ladies 3s/4s/5s play an inter-club friendly at Caroline Chisholm School at 11am.
