Falcons Hockey Academy and Spartan Hockey very proud to announce the Falcons/Spartan Goalie training programme for the 2013/14 season.

20 weeks of full on goalie training for established club keeper and young up and coming ones also.

A bit about Spartan Hockey

Spartan was founded in 2006 by Steve Bayer and Grahame Mansell-Grace (Panda) as they worked together on a project at Loughborough University looking at Sports Personal Protective Equipment, primarily Field Hockey Goalie gear. Steve was coming to the end of his National League career and as Panda coached him, they decided to set up Spartan to do things no one else was doing. And in 2013 they are the UK’s go to company for specialist coaching

They have now both coached at International level and Steve was the GB Womens Goalee Coach at the London Olympics where they won the Bronze medal. Panda have been coaching since he stopped playing 20 years ago and has worked with England, Wales and USA at various levels in that period.

As a kid Panda loved the film “300 Spartans” and the fascination of not letting anyone or thing pass and the strength of a Spartan warrior was an obvious choice for the company name. The 2 main philosophies of “Simple & Disciplined” and “No Retreat, No Surrender” are the backbone of our coaching.

About the programme,

If you have been watching England’s Ladies in the Euros last month you would have seen how much a team relies on a trained goalkeeper. Maddie Hinch’s heroic keeping in the semi-final was no fluke, but years of focused training for Maddie with specialist coaches from Spartan Hockey.

It is open to all, the young (13+) and not so young, as we are running senior and Junior sessions (up to 17 year olds)

Senior sessions will include back to basics, fitness, game awareness and continuous improvement to take back to their respective clubs.

Junior sessions will also include the County JDC and JAC training hopefully directing our keepers to JRPC.

The JRPC experience shows the value of focus keeper training as their movement and awareness has really improved, however this is only available to a select few and if you’re under 17!

So we have great opportunity for junior goalies aged13-16 and senior goalies aged 17 onwards to be coached by a dedicated team focused solely on goalie improvement.

Sessions start on Monday 23rd September at Malcolm Arnold school 1930-2100hrs, and in total there will be 20 session over the season. The cost for the whole programme is £100.
