Men’s Masters 2-5 Rugby Masters

On a blustery night at Moulton the Saints took on a very strong Rugby side who passed and moved at pace from the start. Within the first 10 minutes the Saints were 2-0 as Saints ball was turned over and goalkeeper Paul Madeley was left exposed on both occiasions. Saints started to settle and create chances of their own but  anytome the ball was given away Rugby looked threatening on the break. Indeed it was no surpirise when Rugby added a third midway through the first half. James Askew with a real poachers goal from a short corner reduced the deficit for a short while , however Saints hope of getting to half time two goals adrift were shattered by a well worked Rugby 4th on the stroke of half time.

Saints bravely tried to defend higher up the pitch in the second half and for the most part it worked with Rugby reduced to the odd chances which were well dealt by the Saints defence and keeper Paul Madeley. The roving Mike Darbyshire grabbed a late second for the Saints 10 minutes from time, unfortunately there was still time for Rugby to add a 5th just before the end. It was a valiant performance by the Saints against a very strong Rugby side who will take some stopping in the EHC cup.
