Oundle School 2-2 Men’s Masters

Goals: Tom Salverson, Trev Fidler

In this annual fixture that Saints have yet to record a victory in – Saints started condiently and moved the ball around well prompted by the midfield engine room of Fidler & Downs. Although having most of the possession Oundle looked more likely to score and attacked quickly and dangerously  indeed  taking the lead after 20minutes . Chances came and went for the Saints particularly Trev Fidler whose shooting boots had well and truly been left in Nprthampton. At half time clear message get the ball pace up and more movement reqd. Paul Denton moved into the engine room to give a bit more bite and Saints started to really press for an equaliser – unfortunately a miss placed pass by Tim Daverson in the opposition half allowed Saints old boy Pete Ellis to drive into the 22 and put in an inch perfect cross for the Oundle forward to expertly put away – leaving keeper Paul Madeley with no chance.  Saints poured forward stung into action and a mazy run by Tom Salverson from the half way line, along the by line and slipping the ball past the keeper gave Saints hope at 2-1. Further chances were being created at both ends but particularly the Saints who never quite managed to work the Oundle keeper. In fact with time slipping away another chance fell to Trev Fidler who much to the surprise of the players & crowd finally tucked one past the keeper into the net. All square with 5 minutes to go Saints pushed the menacing pesence of Mike Derbyshire up front but to no avail. Drawn game, well umpired, most probably fair result played in a good spirit and the usual great hospitality afterwards.
