Exciting New Clubhouse at Moulton College

Published by on

Over the past few months since our move to the College we have been settling in to a new home. When we moved to the College we did so with the knowledge that the facilities on offer were superior in terms of pitches, changing rooms, parking space, the indoor pitch etc but we would have to work on the clubhouse option.

We have had some teething problems with arriving when the senior match teas were ready, indeed this was initially a problem at the school and the club and the college are now getting used to each other. The college has changed the way it prepares the teas and these are now warmer as they are being served when you arrive.

The water based pitch has had algae on it and one of the drains has collapsed making the problem worse, most of the problem has been resolved and more work has been undertaken over Christmas.

Junior training is working nicely and lots of parents are using the facilities for tea, coffee and breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

We have been talking with the college about working towards a social facility that we could call a club house and I can give you an update on the progress so far.

At the Holcot site of the college (gate 3) there is a Pine Lodge style building which is being converted to a club house for us, it is marked with the green arrow when you follow this link – Clubhouse from the air

The building is in two separate parts, the far end is the clubhouse, the near is a separate florist’s shop. Later, this will give us extra space to expand into.  Kitchen equipment is being moved into the building to prepare post match teas and hot snacks, (bacon butties etc), a coffee machine will be added and the clubhouse will be staffed by the college. Whilst the college is getting used to manning the clubhouse, opening hours will probably be limited to Saturdays.  The entrance to the club house from the garden centre will be closed and we will enter from the Sport Hall side. The entrance is the door behind the yellow bin, the fence is moving and the area below is likely to have pub benches to use in the warmer months!

The college is looking into getting a licence to serve alcohol but this probably won’t be in place immediately, this will be the first foray into serving external customers with alcohol so the college is just mulling this over and may go down an unlicensed route with the club providing its own alcohol.  We will keep you posted on this one.

We are working through Chris Dickens’ photos to come up with a selection to blow up to decorate the walls and we will be a getting an external sign too, the college is looking into Sky Sports on Saturdays and Wifi has been plummed in, we will be hoping to host some Saturday night socials in the Jan/Feb to formally christen the building!

The clubhouse should be open by the middle of January, or slightly later if some of the refurbishment is still incomplete, the refectory we have been using will probably be closed.
