Men’s 1s pre-season campaign off to a winning start

Men’s 1st XI 10-0 Spalding 1st XI

Goals: James Knibb (5), Stuart Clark (2), Stephan Willams, Jamie Webb, Gareth Parker

Saints hosted Spalding in their first pre-season game of the season last Saturday (15th August). They welcomed new signings Andrew Boot and Tom Drake into the squad, whilst youngster Will Powell made his 1st team debut in goal after a string of impressive performances for the 2nd team last season (which earned him the player of the season award).

The match was played in 3 x 25 minute periods. The first period saw both teams take some time to shake of the summer rust! But gradually Saints settled down. Chances came and went during the first 25 minutes as it ended 0-0.

The second 25 minute period saw a bit of a goal fest as forward James Knibb scored a quick fire hat-trick, whilst fellow forward Stuart Clark also got in on the act with 2 goals.

The final 25 minute period witnessed a rare goal from defender Jamie Webb, and further goals from right back Gareth Parker (G) and a further 2 from Knibb.

All in all a promising start from Saints, but plenty still to work on over the coming weeks.
