Match Reports from 10th October
Men’s 2nd XI 7-1 Coalville
Goals: Jack Knight (4), Rob Tee (2), Jon Noble.
The Men’s second team started off the season with a comprehensive 7-1 victory over Coalville.
This included some fine finishing from the likes of Rob Tee, Jack Knight and Jon Noble, who scored 2, 4 and 1 goals respectively. However, arguably the best area of the game for the 2’s was the full pitch press for 70 minutes, which showed how hard the team has worked in the pre-season fitness.
Man of the match went to Jack Knight who scored 4 (even though we were convinced that he had his eyes shut for at least two of them).
Oundle School Staff 4 -1 Men’s Masters
Goals: Malcolm Gray
Northampton Masters travelled to Oundle determined to come away with a positive result – something that had eluded them on previous visits. In driving rain that stayed throughout the match Oundle started brightly and provided most of the early attacking play. Prompted by Saints old boy Pete Ellis – Oundle early attacking attepts were kept at bay in the early stages by some inspired keeping by Pete Adey. A badly misplaced pass by Trev Fidler straight to the Oundle centre forward who duly slotted the ball past Pete Addey gifted Oundle the lead, shortly afterwards a well worked move resulted in a further Oundle goal . At 2-0 down Saints started to pass the ball and started to create chances of their own – inspired by a Dave “Cannock” Tebbut run down the right cross into the D – ball swept into the net by Malcolm “sniffer “ Gray.
Going into half time 2-1 down Saints started strongly in the second half with the strike twins Jez Deeks and Malcolm Gray carving out a number of chances – only to be thwarted by some inspired goal keeping in the Oundle goal. Saints continued to push forward in search of an equaliser but as fitness and desire for goals started to open up chances for Oundle to counter attack which they did effectively adding 2 further goals before the end of match. After the match Saints took advantage of the usual excellent Oundle hospitality.
