Ladies 1st XI 1-1 Chelmsford

Goals: Caroline McCabe

Saints Ladies 1st Team approached their first game with great anticipation and excitement. The game started with very high pace with end to end hockey but no clear chances. Chelmsford found their coordination early and created some good opportunities in front of goal. Through some missed chances and great goal keeping from Alex Holmes the scoreline remained at 0-0 at the half time whistle.

Having just been promoted into the league the scoreline gave saints great confidence going into the second half. There was conviction and belief in the play that they could score. Throughout the game the defensive unit work hard to relive the pressure brought by a capable Chelmsford. After some intense defending a penalty flick was awarded due to a very committed tackle. This was converted by the Chelmsford player. With heads still held high and belief in themselves saints continued to make the runs up front and the backs held the line high up the pitch. With this platform Saints started to get more time and opportunity in and around the circle. With only 10 minutes to go a strong ball was played in by LA Chacksfield And was sent to the back of the net with a balletic turn and first time strike by Caroline McCabe. All players on the pitch and the bench jumped into the air. Having been promoted three times in three years a draw would feel like a win at this stage. The players jogged back for the centre, was there time for more? Saints continued to create some opportunities as did Chelmsford. With a few minutes to go Saints tried to keep possession and hold on to the draw, which they duly did.

A great start to the season, areas to build on and points on the board.
