Saints Under 14 Girls – England Hockey Development League

Arriving at Cambridge with not a cloud in the sky and how quickly things can change.

But the weather did not put the U14 Northampton girls off.

They played their first match against a young St Ives side that right from the start were on the back foot, with the whole Saints team pushing up the pitch not allowing their opponents out of their own half. This constant barrage of pressure presented goal after goal with the girls only having a minor blip in their concentration allowing St Ives a consolation goal. Saints came out victors with a scoreline of 11-1.

Their second match was against a well drilled St Neots side who pushed hard to win the game.Saints had their chances and were unlucky on several occasions with one shot hitting the keeper with out her knowing about it.

Saints final match was against Cambridge who were a little warmer than ourselves going ahead in the first 5 mins with a breakaway goal due to pressing a little too high. But after settling Saints then gained their rhythm and were back in front in a matter of minutes. Saints came out on top in this game with a 5 – 1 victory.

The girls put so much effort into this tournament with two well earned victories and once again the coach and parents were rather proud of their commitment.
