EH Development League Result – Boys
On 19 February, the U14 boys were in action at Cambridge in the latest round of the U14 Boys Development League. Unavailability of both several members of the squad and coach Nick Beattie meant Jamie Cochrane was left with a small squad.
The boys began with a game against Banbury. Unfortunately a slow start saw them concede an early goal. However, the industry of Lucas and Hamish in midfield soon saw Northampton grow into the contest and they were soon level through a moment of awareness from Liam seizing on a loose ball to score. The boys remained on top through the control both Liam and Ewan offered on the game and scored from a penalty corner on the stroke of half time to lead.
The second half continued in the same vain and the boys were unlucky to concede a goal against the run of play. However, they remained positive and soon began to exert serious pressure which was eventually converted by Ewan.
The game was comfortably seen out for a 3-2 win thanks to the sterling defence of Julian and Lenny, plus Ben in goal.
After a short turnaround the boys faced St Ives. Unfortunately the small squad left the boys tired and soon conceded an early goal. However, all the boys worked tirelessly for each other and were cruelly denied by a shot which hit the post.
Unfortunately, the second half saw a further two goals conceded and chances narrowly missed. However, the boys could not have put in any more effort over the two games and all played superbly well that it was impossible to pick a player of the day as it would have been a seven way tie. They certainly left coach for the day extremely proud of all of them.
Thanks must go to Adam for umpiring and the parents for their support.
