NORTHAMPTON HOCKEY CLUB, NORTHAMPTON, 31 AUGUST 2017 – Northampton Hockey Club today announces the coaches as Christian Howard, Steve Roffe and Glenda Fuller, all of whom will work across the section to help provide the highest possible level of education, guidance and structure to all ladies teams.

This marks a new approach in the ladies section that means Howard will take on responsibility of the 1st team, following his supportive role in the 2016-17 national league season. Howard says “this is certainly a challenging role ahead of me and the group, but I’ve already taken a close look at what we learnt last year and I’m very keen to make sure we make the most of it.” Howard then looks ahead and outlines “we have an encouraging set of players available to create a new legacy and I’m focussing on getting the squad fit and ready throughout pre-season.”

Steve Roffe is promoted to 2nd team coach after his gradual and steady progression with the remit of the 3rd and 4th teams since 2014. Steve has also built his likable and refreshing reputation on the commitment to the academy and junior sections for which the club is now seeing players move up into higher teams. Steve will continue to be available to play for men’s and mixed hockey.

The third appointment is Glenda Fuller, who assumes the post as of Ladies 3rd and 4th team coach. Fuller moves to this role having overseen the Ladies 2nd team last year, whilst also bringing her many years playing experience to the Ladies 3rd team. The new move uses Fuller’s well known skills of youth development and talent spotting into the vital teams that feed the club in years to come. This is an important role and brings playing and coaching experience to even more ladies players throughout the club.

Chairman Jon Keep points out “Christian, Steve and Glenda worked really well together last season, so it’s great to have that continuity within the Ladies section. This season presents an exciting challenge for the Ladies with our 1st team competing in the Midlands Premier Division and the 2nd team returning to the Midlands Conference, after a four year absence. We therefore needed to reinforce our coaching, so it’s great to have such a robust structure to offer the players”.
