Northampton Saints Hockey Club, based at Mouton College, Northampton 

 

As a club we run 7 senior men’s teams, 5 ladies’ teams and a large junior section.

The Men’s 1st XI play in the Midlands League and are currently in Division 1, looking gain promotion to Midlands Prem and beyond.

 

ROLE SUMMARY:

 

We are looking for an exceptional Lead Coach who:

  • Can work within a team to create an intensive and pressurised training environment to encourage the development of effective decision makers and highly skilled players who can repeatedly perform under pressure
  • Will consistently apply the Golden Thread and National Skills Priorities whilst keeping the End in Mind
  • Commit to the full programme of Training and Matches.  
  • Be focused on player development but understand the men’s 1s is there to be successful and looking to gain promotions, attract new players; to create winning teams and environments that players want to be part of.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Create a Short, Medium and Long Term working plan for the squad while effectively applying National Skills Priorities and using the Golden Thread methodology.
  • Attended all Match Days Games
  • Lead the delivery of pitch sessions for men’s first team squad
  • Be involved in the planning and delivery of educational content within on and off pitch sessions
  • Work with young performance athletes and be responsible for their welfare and protection
  • Compose and deliver feedback to players
  • Work with 2nd Team and Club Coaches to Identify and Develop players for future 1st squad places
  • Work with 2nd Team Squad Coach around Match Days selection for the performance squads
  • Understand and enforce the club’s selection policies and ethos – Players play for the club not a team

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend Club events as required
  • Attend Coaches meetings as required
  • Where possible attend and watch 2nd & 3rd team games as well as wider club training to gain better understanding of future player potential
  • Work with Club Coaches to Identify and build a Development Plan for Junior players who could be future 1st squad players – Understand we want our 13-14 year olds to be aspiring to be in first team

 

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Must hold a (minimum) EH Sessional or EH Coach equivalent qualification of Level 2
  • A dynamic coach who is able to deliver exceptional development opportunities
  • A can do attitude and solution focussed approach
  • Relative hockey coaching experience and / or a strong understanding of the requirements of creating a positive progressive environment; a forward thinking coach who understands a games-based and constraint led coaching approach
  • Evidence of creative and effective practice design and session planning
  • Strong communicator, able to clearly and accurately share information
  • Excellent observational skills relating to talent identification
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Have completed an enhanced DBS check within the last three years
  • Have attended a scUK Safeguarding and Protecting Young People in Sport workshop within the last three years
  • Have a First Aid qualification (achieved in the last three years)
  • Have valid Public Liability Insurance for coaching
