Job Title – First Team Coach (training and/or training plus matchdays)
Team – Men’s 1
Reports to – Executive Committee
Job Purpose
- Work with the Captain and First Team Manager to plan for the highest possible performance levels, including selection and training-session planning
- Ensure the M1 squad represents the ‘best of the Club’
- Promote an enjoyable and goal-orientated training programme
- Subscribe and protect the cultural values that the M1 group operates by
- Develop player’s personal skills and capabilities
- Deliver classroom sessions when required
- Team engagement is constantly reviewed and maintained / improved
- Ensure selection is made to give the best possible chance of first team success
Dimensions
The club is open to a “player coach model” where the Club would invest in the Coach’s education of the successful individual, it would be expected that the player coach, if learning their way in coaching, would be a comfortable performer at Regional Premier league level. The Club has a Coach Education Programme in place with England Hockey to support all of the Coaches
Weekday only Coach
- Plan and coordinate weekly training sessions
- Make sessions interesting, challenging and with high standards and expectations
- Support the matchday Manager and Captain to implement the aims and goals from weekday training into the match day performance
- In conjunction with Manager and Captain, plan tactical changes for the upcoming fixture
- Liaise with Manager and Captain before training to adopt feedback of match day into session planning
Weekday and match day Coach
- Incorporating the above, plus
- Play a lead role in selection decisions with Captain
- Implement the aims and goals from weekday training into the match day performance
- Support team with tactical changes on match days
Key results
- 1.5 hours at weekly training sessions
- 1 hour planning and various phone calls/zoom calls to receive feedback on match days
- For the full role, attendance at match days is essential
- Plan for pre match Briefings
- Foster a positive relationship with all match officials
- Encourage personal development and progression
- Aim for a high league placing, ultimately promotion as a stretch goal
Knowledge, skills, and experience
- The full role would be filled by an experienced coach with team management experience
- Ideal if the successful candidate had Player Pathway experience, but a coach skilled at bringing in young players into an adult squad would be equally acceptable
- The Club is open to the role being a Training night role that would be ideal for a Coach with other commitments on weekends
