Stormy Sunday Night Hockey
Storm Arwen blew into Northampton at the weekend, and for some time on Friday night fixtures looked doubtful as junior training and Badgers at Home was cancelled.
And true enough, Saturday morning blew in cold and snowy, but with the pitches frost free, it was game on.
The sun even shone briefly on the Men’s First Team, as they beat Warwick University 2-3, with two goals from Cam Arnold and one from Marti Vila Riera, his first for the club. Man of the Match was Scott Mahoney for tireless work and positive contributions with the ball going forward.
The Ladies Twos lost 4-2 to Warwick Ones, in a game so windy, the umpire got stuck in the goal.
Meanwhile, the Men’s Twos drew one all against Ashby, Jack Zoers-Benstead clearly unfortunate to have been sent off…perhaps he’ll tell us why.
By 4.30, it was beginning to freeze, and despite being fortified by jelly-babies, the Ladies Three’s lost 2-5 to top-of-the-table Long Buckby. More to follow on that one.
And the Men’s Fours were unlucky to lose to Rugby Fives by the odd goal, despite Neil Parker wearing classic Gestetner apparel. Is that a forced smile Trev Fidler?
Back at Moulton, the Men’s Fives beat the Men’s Sixes 4-3 in an energic but finger numbing-encounter on the sand pitch.
