A Frosty Start to the New Year

Published by on

Winter did it’s best to spoil our fun on Saturday, but the Mens 5s we’re lucky enough that Warwick’s pitch had thawed out by four o’clock, and it was a good thing too as Saints put 5 goals past the home team and kept a clean sheet themselves.

The Ladies 4s also had their game! Saints played their best game of the season and beat Rugby with a 2-0 win!

And the Mens 6s also got a game on a very misty and slippery pitch v Coventry Sikh Union. 2-1 up at one point, unfortunately Saints went to sleep and lost 3-2, but with lots of positive points to take away.

Sunday was positively balmy in comparison, and the Girls Under 12s (all six of them!) travelled to Stourport for a three-way tournament.

Game 1 – Bromsgrove 4-0 W

Saints made short work of Bromsgrove. 4 goals from 3 different players put the game to bed early. Leaving debutant GK Harriet hoping it’ll be this easy every game

Scorers: Freya 2 Connie 1 Erin 1

Game 2 – Stourport 2-4 L

This was a game of two halves. Having broken away to score a goal against the run of play, Saints seemed to have angered Stourport, who woke up and put 4 good goals past the visitors. With an emphatic speech at half time, Saints went shopping for a goal and won the second half 1-0.

Scorers: Josie 1 / Erin 1

Game 3 – Old Sills 1-3 L

Unfortunately Saints lost focus against Stourport and went 3-0 down at half time. Formation changed at half time and a hit from defence worked its way through the opposition and a speedy Erin C touched it into the goal.

Scorer : Erin 1

Overall a fantastic effort following a long trip to deepest darkest Worcestershire!

Saints Under 16 Boys also played on Sunday, versus an invitational side from the Mens First to Fifth teams. The game finished 1-1, but the drama was saved for a penalty shootout in which the boys keeper, Monty Christoe starred as the U16s ran out 7-1 winners!
