Comeback Queens
The Ladies 3s played Earls Barton yesterday and were 2-0 down at half time due to a brace of short corner goals. Saints made a great comeback after the break though, showing some lovely teamwork to make it 2-2 with goals from Olivia and Charlotte.
Men’s 6s also drew 2-2, this time in in a very scrappy and tense game against Old Silhillians 4s, with Andy Dale being one of Saints’ goalscorers. (Feel free to reply with the other scorer! – ed.)
Men’s 5’s winning streak unfortunately came to an end on Saturday, losing 3-0 away to Coventry and North Warwickshire 3s. Man of the match, was none other than Joe Cliffe himself, with a great effort on the pitch.
Men’s 3s had a frustrating day against an under-manned Warwick Uni side with the opposition stacking their defence and trying to play on the break. Saints prevailed nonetheless with a 5-0 victory, MoM going to keeper Gav – for keeping his concentration on an otherwise quiet day before preserving a clean sheet with late saves. Goals from from Lloydy, Dan and Dave.
Men’s 4s lost 3-1 to Stratford. After a very close first half Saints went ahead with a well-struck short corner from Rob Tee early in the second half. Sadly Stratford scored three in reply, all from short corners.
Ladies 2s drew 0-0 with Warwick 2s. Saints totally dominated this game and should have won very easily. Very frustrating and annoying for the players, but Megan and Lisa both performed well enough to earn joint players of the match.
Mens 2s drew 0-0 with Boots 2s. Tom Pedler won man of the match for his ‘brick wall’ performance in goal.
And in the Ladies 5s game versus Long Buckby…Saints played well in blustery conditions against a much more experienced team but unfortunately lost 3-1. Izzy was awesome at centre back, making great jab tackles and forcing her opponent wide. A Super strike from Katie to score. All the girls worked really hard. Player of the match: Izzy. Wally of the week: Tunni for falling over!
