A Game of Cats and Dogs

Saints Men’s 2s beat Rugby and East Warwickshire 3s 4-0 in a relegation 6 pointer on Saturday. Scott Hinsley opened the scoring before half time and Harry Fidler doubled our lead with his first goal for the club. Two second half goals from Jon Seddon helped to put Saints four points clear of the drop. Heath MacGregor won man of the match after a solid performance at half back.

Badgers 2s battled hard in the first half of their game v Welford but conceded following a number of strong attacks from the opposition. The second half saw Saints play with a better structure which stretched Welford resulting in two well worked Saints goals to seal the win, 2-1. Team: Johnny, Christopher, Charlie, Tom, Poppy, Erin C, Serena, Erin D, Bethany,  Amber, Brooke, Trisha, Graham, Del.

Goals: Tom x2.

Men’s 6s had a 4-0 win against Coventry and North Warwickshire 4s, with Harshad scoring a hat-trick. One of his goals from the left was scored with an instinctive flick from a very narrow angle. Angus rounded off the win with a neat flick to lob the keeper. After the match, Chris “The Cat” Godman said, “Oh can I just add it was my first ever clean sheet playing in goal”.

An amazing win 4-1 against Oundle 2s for the Ladies 4s, Rebecca Taylor and Khushi Praveen getting joint man of the match. A lovely performance from everyone on pitch and a well-deserved win! Rebecca Taylor scored two lovely goals and Hollie and Ruby were the other scorers!

Men’s 3s welcomed Loughborough Town to Moulton on Saturday knowing it would be another tough game. They are the last team to beat the 3s at home and always enjoy sending a strong team down the M1. That said, it was another resilient effort for the full 70 minutes, but a special mention must go to our U18 players James Barnwell and Will Baker whose performances were both excellent; James managed the left side of midfield with great maturity and Will made some absolute “worldies” when the shots were coming in strong and hard towards the end of the game. Onwards and upwards, another three points and the win keeps the 3s at the top of the league. After the match, Gavin “The Dog” Lyon said, “Sounds like I’ll have to work hard to get my place back!”

A spirited performance from the Men’s 1s to round things off, despite a 3-1 loss largely against the run of play. Saints goal came from Marti with a first-half penalty corner. Man of the Match was Sam Dale.
