Mens 3s Savour Well-Deserved Title at Fortress Moulton!

Published by on

Mens 3s missed out on an unbeaten season but still topped the league after a narrow 3-2 defeat to Oundle in a thriller at Fortress Moulton. Saints took a first-half lead (Chappers on the back post from a threaded Phil cross) but were pegged back just before half-time.

The second half remained tight with chances at both ends, but Oundle took the lead after being awarded a questionable penalty stroke. Saints came back though with a well-worked short corner, finished off by Captain Jez, but were undone late by a back-post high volley.

Disappointment was swiftly drowned in champagne though, as the latest Saints Champions celebrated their table topping season!

Mens 5s lost 4-1 for their final game of the season to league winners, Market Harborough 3s. Mens 5s have finished 3rd in the league. So not a bad season whatsoever! Looking forward to next season already!

Ladies 3s won 2-0 against Loughborough Town. Brilliant performance from all and good team play to end off the season. Two goals and Player of the Match to Olivia Witts.

Mens 6s played their final game of the season with a 6-1 loss. Although Saints played with a depleted side it was a real positive step forward for all the younger players in the squad, against a Towcester team that had an average age of about 35 years. They worked hard and never have up.

Taking that hard work and determination will stand them in good stead for next season.

Ladies 4s finished their season 3-2 win over Long Buckby 2s.

Mens 4s played the last game of the season away to Rugby 4s, a must win game. Saints put up a tough fight and played some of our best hockey for the first 60 mins, taking the lead with a great individual goal from Adam H. Unfortunately we couldn’t hold on, got caught on the break and conceded some late goals and lost 4-1. After the match, Trev Fidler said it was, “…a tough season but really proud of the team, especially the junior players who have showed ongoing development”.

Ladies 5s lost 0-3 at home to Rugby 4s but showed real determination and battled throughout. It was always going to be tough with all Saints players under 16, but we demonstrated real class. A terrific season for the young girls more than matching the opposition in many games!

Well done to all Saints teams, and thanks to everyone who has contributed to writing match reports over the past few months. Looking forward to next season, and see you all at the club shindig!
