Silver Linings
Ladies 1 v Leek 1s
Win 2-1 goals – Dani Dowson and Ruby Curtis-Free
In a very good game for the ladies they kept working hard on their shape in and out of possession against a leek team that was intent on playing half court and sitting deep
Saint dominated large portions of the game and should have put the game to bed much earlier but they kept working hard on their forward play with a goal close to full time
Good 3 points and overall play
Men’s 5s 1-3 Ashby 3s
A tough, but well fought game.
A lovely little dink of the keeper by Chris Godman at the 46th minute got us the one goal, but not enough for the 3 points this week.
Another smashing result for the Mens Fours this week as we beat Stratford 5-1. 4-0 up at half time it really kicked off as Stratford started to play hardball with Saints’ kids. This was a real lesson in how to win dirty. It wasn’t pretty at times but the boys showed grit and if that’s what it takes that’s what we’ll do
Big thanks to Del Bowie and David Gopinath for umpiring a very feisty match.
M2s suffered a narrow and frustrating 4-3 defeat away to Rugby 3s. Defensive errors and some sharp Rugby finishing were Saints’ undoing in the first half, as the 2s found themselves 2-0 down inside the first 10 minutes. Saints battled back to level at 2-2 through strikes from James and Harry, only to concede 2 more late in the half, Rugby restoring their cushion on the break. With a tighter defensive performance in the 2nd half and with periods of sustained pressure Saints deservedly pulled 1 back through Jon Seddon. They thought they had an equaliser too as MoM Harry’s short corner struck the boards, only to be ruled too high as it crossed the line. The final whistle brought an end to the comeback and the M2s will have to pick themselves up after next week’s break.
Ladies 3s
Started off really strong this week with an early goal thanks to Liv Witts. Throughout the first half we were passing the ball around nicely and keeping possession. Rugby & EW fought back with a lovely aerial tap into goal to finish the first half 1-1. Second half panic started to set in and lots of bouncy hits up the pitch meant we lost possession and couldn’t create any scoring opportunities. R&EW overloading in the D then finished the game off 2-1. MOM – Khushi Praveen. DOD – Laura Charles (turning up to a home game in full white kit)
Ladies 2’s Vs Warwick uni 1’s
Off the back of two wins in 2 weeks, we had some high hopes going into this week, however, the students were always going to prove much tougher opposition than previous weeks and despite battling hard for a good portion of the first half, soaking up
A lot of pressure, Warwick scored from their first short corner of the match, breaking the saints resolve. Saints gave the students far too much respect and it resulted in a second goal shortly after the break. This was almost the turning point and the young saints side attacked with far more purpose. The second half at times had the students on the back foot and after several short corners, unfortunately we were unable to break the students down to score. The game ended 2-0 to Warwick. Man of the match votes went to Izzy Phipps, Katie Fidler, Dani Austin and Elsa Lee, but the winner for a solid second half performance went to Millie Richie! Onwards and upwards to Loughborough students next week!!
Ladies 4s we’re “Away” today against our own Ladies 5s. They put out a strong team with lots of talented youngsters.
They made lots of brilliant breaks and we countered with strong transfers from our defence to the forward line. Hilary Gyde, Phoebe Thomas and Ruby Seymour scored putting us at a 3-1.
MOM – Joint for Phoebe Thomas and in her 4s debut Ruby Seymour!
DOD – Jon Seddon as he forgot his whistle for umpiring (poor show)
Ladies 5s played host to the Ladies 4s today in the late game.
The 5s stuck to their game plan from the last 2 weeks moving the ball efficiently around the pitch with excellent off the ball movement.
Azaria was strong in defence supported well by Yvie & Carisse.
Cecile, playing in midfield this week, put in a great performance throughout the game & finished off a well executed period of play to score the 5s goal.
A friendly, well fought game resulted in a 3-1 win for the 4s, who just had that little bit more experience.
Goal: Cecilie
Player of the match: Cecilie/Hester
Wally of the week: Bea
Shout out to Diane Wallace (Kathryn Wilkinson’s Mum) who played for Ireland Masters O50’s Team. Scoring against USA to secure them a 4-0 win. They went on to finish 6th in the table unfortunately losing 3-0 to hosts RSA in the 5th/6th position play off. Fantastic effort though congratulations! Diane even bumped into Saints Caroline McCabe who was playing for England Masters O45’s team. They made it all the way to final where they unfortunately lost 3-1 to Argentina! But huge Congratulations on silver

Saints Mixed 6-2 Long Buckby
Lovely sunny Sunday afternoon for the mixed teams 2nd game of the season.
Great team play, lead to Saints putting 6 in the opposition net.
Hatrick from Azaria Kilby (I think, sorry, rubbish with names!)
Mens 7’s played away at Loughbough vs the new Carrillon and Coalville club. The lads and dads of the sevens started quickly but in a slightly confused fashion resulting in a 5-1 half time score line . The second half brought a more cohesive performance from the lads and the veterans in the side, goals from Andy , TP and Jude made the game much more competitive and although the score was 10-4 a good game was had. Pizza and games of pool back at the clubhouse made the day a success and another hour of pool/table football and a second match tea back at Brixworth finished the day off nicely.
