Reports from the weekend…sorry it’s late! U0001F607

Lots of great performances today from the Men’s Third XI against a feisty Mansfield 1st XI who travel down to us today expecting an easy win as the to teams are at opposing ends of the table. That however didn’t happen and it was an epic performance from the whole team that kept them to 1-1 until the final minute of the game where a dubious PC was deflected into the top corner. Despite a number game saving saves from Phil between the posts, we were unable to keep that one out!

Phil Bridges went into beast mode in the midfield in the second half – we got our very on Kante with all the running he did!

And of course Lloydy upfront possible ran more than both teams put together – super effort!

Special mention does go to the player of the match Joel Panther. A mature performance, was great under pressure, and knew when to take the player on and when to lay it off – Macca would be so proud!!

Hugely proud of the whole team and a few more performances like that and the Third XI will drag themselves out of the bottom four.

The M2s battled their way to a deserved but hard-fought 1-0 victory away to a tough Oundle side, continuing their good run of form in 2023. A scrappy James B goal in the first half made the difference as Saints showed, after 2 controlled performances in their last 2 games, that they can win ugly when they have to too. Some bright moments across the team (with particular honourable mentions to Harry F, James B and a captain’s performance from Ollie) punctuated what, to be fair, was a triumph of unquestionable effort over refined elegance, shedding the rust after the long frost-enforced break. MoM went to Gav in goal for a vital and, at least this week, well earned clean sheet.

A frustrating game today. But a very well fought one against second in the league!

A few dodgy decisions, 3 Yellow Cards, and a couple of defensive mishaps lead to us conceding 4 goals.

But even though we were up against it, we managed to get 3 goals back and definitely didn’t make it easy for them.

A frustrating result, that could have easily gone either way.

Another tough game next week to 3rd Place Ashby 3s, but if we keep up this level of effort, we should hopefully be able to get a few more points on the table.

Ladies 5’s take a 3-1 victory over Oundle 2’s

Solid win from the ladies 5’s this afternoon U0001F919U0001F3FCU0001F4A5 Calmly we dominated with strong possession of the ball throughout. The opposition were quickly rattled by our pace and tenacity.

Olivia S got the ball rolling with goal 1 ten minutes in. Followed later by an epic goal after a full pitch sprint from Connie B (one of our stars if todays show) just before half time.

The second half kicked off with a bit of pressure from the Oundle ladies (they must of had good half time snacks) but we pulled it back and soon had hold of the reigns again. After many attempts, Ellie A scored a belter to make it 3-1 as she weaved her way through the defence with confidence and style.

All in all, a great team effort!

Mens 6’s 4-1 Sikh Union 3

Another great game, possibly our best of the season! We are starting to move through the gears as a team. Our passing and movement off the ball has come a long way since the start of the season and now we are putting away our chances too. Two goals in each half all coming from superb team contributions. And important 3 points for us.

Mens 7’s vs Ashby 5’s

The lads finally had a game that wasn’t called off with bad weather! A good squad started well swiftly moving the ball around the pitch challenging Ashbys defence. A swift penalty corner put the boys down 1-0 and a second half counter attack saw Ashby 2-0 up. The lads came back Minton the game and fought off Ashbys attacks band built a platform to create many entries to the opposition circle. A left wing move gave Seb an opportunity to slot a shot home. More attacks created an opportunity for Jude to slip home an equalizer. Several more chances slipped by before the final whistle.

This week the ladies 2s played Towcester 2s and after a tough start managed to fight back to claim the win 2-1. The first half was littered with mistakes and led to Towcester scoring first, but that was a bit of a wake up call that we needed and an equaliser soon followed. In the second half the ladies fought hard to get the winning goal which came from a great team effort utilising Elsa Lee’s pace down the wing and finally being converted by Grace Moulton. both goals were scored by Grace on her welcome return to the side . The team showed improvements throughout the game which really paid off and kept Towcester at bay, especially as we started to transfer the ball more to create better attacking opportunities.Man of the match was given to Gracie Horton and Grace Moulton, they both had some great play up front and worked tirelessly off the ball, which helped us to get the ball forward quickly and get the win! Special mention to Rebecca Taylor and Bella Hankins for their 2nd team debut, both were unfazed by the local Derby! A tough home fixture next week against Warwick university!

Ladies 4s we’re away at Long Buckby. A nerve wracking experience given our previous history at the pitch. The game in the first half was end to end, we made use of quick breaks into the D and we held up defensively. The end of the first half drew closer but 5 seconds before the half time whistle, the opposition broke down our defence and managed to score.

We came back after half with the same attacking breaks and better team work. We still couldn’t quite manage putting our ball behind the line. The second half finished 1-0 still to Long Buckby.

Great performances from all but man of the match went to Josie Lee!

And finally, M4s showed no mercy against bottom-of-the-table, ten-man Coventry by beating them 11-0! Four goals from stand-in captain Adam Hall ensured the home team improved on their questionable finishing from last week. Well done boys! U0001F4AA
