Umpires Just Doing Their Thing

Posted by Joseph Cliffe on 13 November 2022

Umpires just doing their thing…thanks to everyone who gave their time to umpire this week. Without you our games wouldn’t happen ❤️

Big shout out today for Julian Hemmings, Ian Street & Callum Timms, and of course Rebecca James all for stepping up and umpiring for the 5s and 6s games today!

*Saints 5s* 5-2 *Hampton in Arden 4s*

*Goal scorers:*
Cody Godman x3
Tim Warburton x 1
Liam Smith x1

A solid win for Men’s 5s today, consistent passing, and a hat trick from our up and coming Cody Godman.

Saints 6s 0-5 Warwick 5s

Another tough game, pegged back in our own half for much of it. A few great chances were created, showing lots of potential for the future.

Ladies 2’s vs Ashby

The ladies 2’s played against Ashby 2’s today with a winning result of 3-1. It took the team some time to get into the game with first half ending 0-0. But after gaining some momentum through great passing, we scored our first goal. Ashby bounced back and scored an equaliser just minutes later. Tia kept us in the game with some great saves, especially 1-2-1 breaks from their forwards. But we managed to get 2 more quick goals from some clinical play. Everybody played extremely well in a very end to end match, with great assists from Elise and Katie and goals from Jess, Issy W and Maisie. It was a real team effort today, reflected in man of the match votes going to Elsa, Katie, Kate, Lisa, Tia with Hattie and Megan and Maisie getting 2 votes each. Another win today keeps the team towards the top of the table.

L1 lost 4-1 to Litchfield

Hattie Fordham made her first team debut. Saints started the game very slow and that set the tone as they struggled to match the intensity from the home team conceding in the first 10 mins. 3 more goals followed from Litchfield before Saints got one back with a Goal from Sophie  H. Tough day and plenty of things to think on. We move on to next week and home game v Notts Uni

Market Harborough 3s 2-8 M4s

Beautifully structured hockey, played at pace by the M4s took apart the home side in a game to be celebrated for the style of play even more than the amazing scoreline. Man of the match was Ash Batey for driving forward from right-back, with a special mention to Chris Bryden the Bloody Ballerina 🩰 🩸😁

M2s ground out a much needed but also much deserved 3-2 win at home to Leicester Westleigh. A first half strike from Hamish gave the 2s a 1-0 lead at the half but whilst Saints had much the better of the play Leicester were dangerous on the break, the lead narrowly preserved on occasions by timely interventions from the back 4 and keeper. A momentary lapse at the back allowed Leicester to equalise in the second half but a rocket from Scott M restored the lead before a calm finish from Harry gave Saints a cushion. A nervous last few followed as Leicester pushed forwards and pulled one back late with a rebound strike from the last in a string of short corners. M2s saw out the game and started out on the path back up the table. MoM went to Dan B.

M7 played a tough game against a mature Nuneaton thirds , moving the ball well around the pitch but struggled against much bigger opponents. The highlights were some great creative opportunities crafted by the youngsters . Jonny in goal played well and made some big saves, Jaden started to get the pace of adult hockey and Lucca and TP created lots of chances . Big thanks to Max, Pete and Scott who stepped into strengthen the side. An 8-0 score line was a tough result but smiles all round for bangers and mash back at the clubhouse.

Ladies 5

To sum it up … 4-3 down, played brilliantly! Started positively and the game was quite balanced at first as our very young team settled in. Unfortunately Rugby, with a far more experienced side, settled in more comfortably. Half time didn’t come soon enough because by the time it arrived we were 3-0 down. No major errors or embarrassments … they just scored some goals. Had a chat, made some changes and we went back to it. Charley was a star throughout, with less to do in the second half but when called on she didn’t let us down. This in turn led to us growing in confidence and, courtesy of an amazing team effort and individual determination we pulled 3 goals back, conceding just 1. Ellie, Connie and Erin scored one a piece … all created by lovely combinations of both individual effort and team play executed to a very high level. The umpires complemented us on a game well played, they enjoyed being part of it. So a very positive, thoroughly yenjoyable 4-3 loss. Should have been an amazing draw but not this time … next time’s a win! Well played team!

Ladies 4s were playing at home against Oundle 2s. We started the game with what seemed like 2 very even teams. After 20 minutes, Oundle managed to break our defence and score the first goal of the game. Oundle stayed ahead of us for the rest of the game and just as we were finding the gaps in their defence more easily, the full time whistle blew with a score of 5-3 to Oundle.
It was an even game and unfortunate that the score line didn’t go in our favour. MOM was joint to Stella Grayson and Taylor Lyon.
